The Collector

The Collector is an interesting program to catalog your coin collection. It is written in JAVA and it doesn’t use a database so you don’t have to install anything else. The program should be platform independent, but this has not been tested yet. For windows users I’ll be creating a registry entry to register the .col file type with Collector.

The GUI

I think the gui is pretty straight forward. All of the main functions are in the tool bar. The interface looks good in a small window, or if you have a lot of information you can maximize it to full screen.

Add Entries

When you add entries you will have the option to add up to 10 at a time. It has an nice feature where you can put in information for one and when you expand it to add more you can copy that data into the new one. This could be handy for inserting coins that are similar.

Edit Entries

By pressing the edit button or double clicking on a table entry you will be able to edit the information. The only fields that are not editable are the id and name.

Right-Click Features

The right-click menu adds convenience for some of the operations. It also has a Duplicate button that allows you to duplicate the currently selected table item.

Future

There is a lot of work for this in the future. One big thing will be creating filters or having custom filters, so you will be able to view a subset of your data. I also want to add some statistical information such as monetary totals or value of collection.
